Times to pay settlement to accident victim

Times Staff Writer

CLEARWATER - The Times Publishing Co. has agreed to pay an out-of-court settlement to a Clearwater woman for injuries she suffered after a St. Petersburg Times delivery truck struck her car in 1986.
The settlement, worth $425,000, provides a lump sum at the beginning and monthly increments throughout Linda Phillips' lifetime, said her lawyer, Wil Florin. The increments could make the settlement worth $700,000 during Ms. Phillips' life, Florin said.
Ms. Phillips, 45 was injured Nov. 11, 1986, when a Times delivery truck slid on wet pavement at 49th Street and Park Boulevard in Pinellas Park and sideswiped her car. She has undergone four back operations, with a fifth scheduled, and is considered disabled, said Anthony K. Black, a Tampa attorney representing the Times.
The case was scheduled for trial Monday but was settled out-of-court Friday.
