Hulk Hogan Files Medical Malpractice Case Against Tampa, Florida Based Laser Spine Institute, LLC

Supported by several of the nation’s leading spinal surgeons and medical school neurological surgery professors, Terry Bollea, a/k/a Hulk Hogan, has today filed a medical malpractice action in Pinellas County, Florida Circuit Court.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages against Tampa, Florida based Laser Spine Institute, LLC (LSI) and several of its employed physicians/co-owners. The lawsuit alleges that between February 2009 and August 2010, Hogan, due to LSI’s monetary rather than medical motives, became the victim of multiple unnecessary endoscopic surgical procedures that further destabilized his already existing injured back and severely damaged his entertainment and athletic career.

The lawsuit states that as a direct result of LSI’s negligent conduct, Hogan has sustained, among other damages, a provable loss of past and future income well in excess of $50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million Dollars) during the last chapter of an internationally successful athletic and entertainment career.

The lawsuit further alleges that Hogan first became aware that he may have been a victim of these medically unnecessary and damaging surgeries (which for years have been direct marketed by LSI to the general public as a “minimally invasive” alternative to traditional spinal surgery) following the publication of a critical article in Bloomberg.com, entitled “Laser Spine Surgery More Profitable Than Google Sees Complaints.” A copy of the article is attached as Exhibit “A” to the Complaint.

Hogan states in the suit that he was repeatedly told by the LSI Defendant’s that undergoing traditional spine surgery, as had been recommended by numerous prominent spine surgeons in order to continue his successful athletic career would instead effectively end that career.

Hogan is represented by Wil Florin and Eric Czelusta of Palm Harbor, Florida based Florin│Roebig, P.A. A copy of the Complaint and attached exhibits can be viewed online by visiting FlorinRoebig.com.
